Who Is Joshua Ware

What has Joshua Ware Done So Far?

Joshua spent the early parts of his career in the Crown Heights community, providing psychotherapy to older teens and adults who normally wouldn't have access to therapy. His expertise and curricula focus are on dismantling the stigma of mental health care within the Black/Caribbean community to create healing spaces for those who are prevented from having access. He specializes in individual trauma-based therapy, and he is well-versed in many evidence-based practices, which allows him to tailor his approach for disenfranchised people.

His work has historically been rooted in level analysis using an anti-oppressive approach to discourse by assessing the macro and meso levels within systems that impact the micro.  Joshua participated in policy work and co-created college-level curriculum taught at the Sing Sing Correctional facility for men who were not expected to be released from incarceration. He was an integral contributor to the Mass Incarceration Conversation Series with Dr. Jae James, which created conversation about the impact of hyper-incarceration on subjugated communities.

He has presented work dismantling anti-blackness within the social work profession for Children of Promise, the NASW-NYC Conference, the National Conference in Washington, DC., and NYU as an adjunct professor teaching Diversity, Race, Oppression, and Privilege.

“His ability to connect with listeners was evident throughout the session, and the standing ovation at the conclusion of his talk spoke volumes about the impact he made.”
