As a Black professional in predominantly white run spaces, I know what it is like to face a great deal of discrimination that creates a feeling of racialized self doubt and imposter syndrome. This impacted my ability to believe in myself as an individual and a Black professional. While creating a private practice, I noticed that my experience was unique from my white counterparts who were building their private practice. I realized it was less about finding a niche and more about finding a way to believe in myself as a Black clinician and owning my unique experience so I can have a private practice that mirrors what aligns with who I am at my core.
Thus, I seek to provide consulting services to BIPOC clinicians looking to find their place in private practice in the capacity that they see fit. I use my clinical skills and experience with building my own private practice as a Black man to assist others with guidance in their own journeys. I want to be able to see your dream of private practice grow and flourish: see you thrive in spite of what the world around you is enforcing on you. You deserve to grow and flourish. I would love to assist you.

More About Josh The Therapist
I spent the formative years of my career in the Crown Heights community providing psychotherapy to older teens and adults who normally wouldn't have access to therapy. Being exposed to the inner workings of mental health care, I was inspired to create my own private practice and name it Butterfly Garden Counseling.
My experiences with running and growing a private practice has given me the knowledge to support others who are interested in finding their lane within the ever growing mental health profession. My skills from my experience as a professor also allows me to approach every moment we share as a teaching moment.
Community is key to creating something new. We can not build on our own. This is your chance to receive help toward your building and growing your dream.
